St. Cletus Catholic School was established in 1978 in conjunction with the church that was established in 1965. St. Cletus is tucked away in an older subdivision of Gretna, Louisiana. It is set back into the neighborhood and can be accessed from Gretna Boulevard.
The school opened its doors in August of 1978 to 190 students. It contained ten classrooms, an office, and a large open space used as a multipurpose room. St. Cletus Catholic School first began with Kindergarten through fourth grade with one class of each grade. An additional grade was added each subsequent year (through eighth grade). Even the school site was built in phases as additional room was needed to service the community at St. Cletus Catholic School.
From its humble beginning of 190 students, today St. Cletus Catholic School has grown to an average enrollment of 470. The school is dedicated to its mission of providing a challenging Christian education in a loving compassionate environment. It seeks to foster the development of the spiritual, physical, and social needs of all of its students. It is the intent of St. Cletus Catholic School to provide the foundation to develop individual talents so that all of its students become life-long learners, faith filled, and contributing members of society. Now, over thirty-three years later, St. Cletus Catholic School is a strong success and has grown to more than its founders could ever have imagined.
