Adelbrook’s Learning Centers in Cromwell/ East Hartford, serve the educational needs of Ädelbrook residents as well as day students from across Connecticut. The focus of the programs is to teach students how to function independently so that they experience success in the school setting and beyond. A team of experienced, extensively trained special education teachers and support staff, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, clinicians and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) provide an exceptional learning experience for students with ASD,ED,LD,ID or OHI-ADHD. Small class sizes with a low staff to student ratio assure a highly structured, language-rich environment that promotes individualized growth in the areas of communication, cognitive and social development, and independence. For students with intensive needs, discrete trial teaching and applied behavioral analysis (ABA)-based methods are utilized and sensory needs are addressed through a variety of methods. A school psychologist is available for psychometric assessments and nursing staff provide medication administration as needed.

Student use of technology (smart boards, iPads, e-readers and personal computers) is embedded in the everyday academic experience. Additionally our community-based vocational programs feature real life progressive employment opportunities with the support of highly-trained job coaches. We also accept 45 day diagnostic placements.

Curriculum

The Learning Center also offers traditional, for-credit high school academic classes that are flexible and designed to complement a range of learning styles. Aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), we incorporate evidence-based instruction methods.
