Daytop NJ gives teens back their lives and parents back their child. Daytop NJ is an accredited integrated residential treatment and therapeutic, licensed boarding school for teenagers aged 13-18. Daytop Prep School is also a day school option for students who live regionally. Located in the beautiful town of Mendham, New Jersey, Daytop NJ provides an integrated school and residential treatment program for teenagers with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.


We provide quality, full day high school education in a licensed special education school with individualized education tracks to meet the needs of an educationally diverse population. * Our minimum length of stay is 90 days while the average is 51/2 months. * Our milieu is a peer based learning community which provides a unique mix of a therapeutic as well as emotional growth based treatment milieu. * Daytop NJ uses evidenced based practices including trauma informed care, CBT, MI/MET as well as evidenced based programming including Seeking Safety, Hazeldon Relapse prevention materials, equine & canine assisted therapy, spirituality, meditation, physical health and fitness and 12- step integration. * We support family involvement throughout the course of treatment - our primary goal is reunification with the family (for teens in treatment as well as adults where appropriate) and a return to their home. * In addition to family therapy, our teens receive individual and group therapy by licensed clinicians. * Daytop NJ works with each family to make treatment affordable, combining private pay, sliding scale and insurance coverage (and is in-network with all the major providers).

The Daytop Prep Day School is a licensed special education school providing an alternative educational experience for grades 7-12 for students who typically present with a combination of social, emotional, behavioral and substance abuse challenges that impact their academic achievement. The school offers both self-contained and mainstream academic programs designed to meet the needs of an educationally diverse student population.

Admission Information

Daytop NJ is appropriate when... * A teenager requires more intensive treatment services than would be available in a standard outpatient setting * A teen has a history of in and outpatient substance abuse or co-occurring treatment without success. * A teen's behavior in the community places him or her at risk for hospitalization or re-hospitalization. * Emotional and/or substance abuse issues are interfering with academic achievement. * a supportive transition from intensive or long term in-patient treatment or therapeutic wilderness programs is needed to help the student transition back into the academic and social demands of a typical high school.

Through these courses students are encouraged to express individual preferences and to develop their unique talents. •The elective program is structured to foster joyful learning experiences. •The Art Program offers courses in sculpture, painting, printmaking, and the study of art history. •The Technology Program includes web design, power point, graphics, publishing, and programming. •The Music Technology Program includes original music recording and production, playing traditional musical instruments, and small group performances. •The Physical Education/Health Program offers gymnastics, weight training and fitness, team sports including volleyball, badminton, basketball, soccer, softball, and tennis. •Reading is important in both academics and in broadening our students' understanding of the world around them, so we have incorporated Kindle classes. Kindle tablets make it a more fun to read and learn and by leveraging the vast catalogue of materials they provide, Daytop Preparatory School's library resources are able to rival that of much larger learning institutions. •Through the use of online courses and proprietary instructional software our students are given the opportunity to learn new languages as a credited course, as an elective or as an independent study course.
