Gordon Parks Elementary School's Full Profile
Gordon Parks Elementary School says
Founded in 1999, Gordon Parks is a growing Kansas City, Missouri public charter school serving students in grades K-4. To meet the individual educational needs of our students and close academic achievement gaps Gordon Parks : 1) Establishes Rigorous Attendance Goals: To succeed in school, students must be in school. GPES focuses on 90/90 (90% of students attending 90% of the time) and provides door-to-door bus transportation to all students. In 2013-2014, the 90/90 attendance rate at GPES was 90.3%. 2)Maintains Small Class Sizes: To strengthen individualized instruction, GPES maintains an overall 11:1 student/teacher ratio. 3)Monitors Student Achievement: The STAR assessment is used as a monthly benchmark for early literacy, reading, and math. Staff members use the results to categorize students and individualize instruction.
4) Provides Embedded Professional Development: We firmly believe that professional development of teachers is integral to student success. We reflect this philosophy in our daily planning and activities and by dedicating time and financial support to professional development throughout the year.
Acting on our conviction that every child has promise, Gordon Parks provides urban-core children, including those who are at-risk, with an individualized education that is balanced to develop intellect, character, creativity and physical well-being.
Public charter schools are supported through lower levels of direct, public funding, as well as though private subsidies. As with district public schools, they do not charge tuition to students who attend them.
