Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers says

The mission of Murry Bergtraum (MBHS) is to equip our students with the skills needed to obtain entrance into post-secondary institutions and the knowledge needed to be self-sustaining once they gain admission. The focus of our Ninth Grade Academy is to provide academic support in a small nurturing environment which will provide students with the skills and resources needed to graduate from high school in four years. The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is an integral component of our Ninth Grade Academy. As students progress, internships and mentoring opportunities support our academic goals with real-world experiences as we work to develop tomorrow's leaders.

Curriculum

MBHS students enter the Ninth Grade Academy and have the opportunity to transition into one of three Small Learning Communities: Emerging Technologies Institute, Institute of Justice, or Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies; Honors classes, College Now, AVID, Virtual Enterprise, College Summit, on-site Syracuse University courses for college credit, college counseling, Performance-based Assessment, tutoring, internships, mentoring, Saturday and after-school academic programs

Program features Town Hall meetings and goal setting sessions where students develop strategies to meet success and transition into one of the three Small Learning Communities (Emerging Technologies Institute, The Institute of Justice, Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies) in tenth grade.

Entrance Requirements: Review of Attendance & Punctuality

Students will focus on math and science, and will work with university faculty to develop research skills. Students will be considered for summer college programs at several universities, including Syracuse University. Academy students will be mentored by consultants from Deloitte Consulting, one of our corporate partners, in their four-year technology/college readiness initiative. Please note that all students will be in uniform.
