Pace Academy says

Can small be a virtue? Well, if you're considering schools, absolutely. Our more intimate setting enables kids to be more involved on more levels in the classroom, in sports, in the arts. With an average SAT score for the past five years of 1300+, our students regularly attend colleges such as University of Virginia, Duke, Stanford and Washington and Lee. Great things come in small packages. In our close environment, students know they have support from their teachers and friends. They learn to take risks, ask questions, think critically and communicate well, so well, in fact, that they have held the state debate championship title for the past 21 years. Because we are small, student/faculty/parent partnerships come easier. Our family-centered environment develops academically, socially, athletically and emotionally strong students. We have championship teams, acclaimed fine arts programs, an award-winning service program and, of course, a drama program second to none. At Pace Academy we don't set out to be the biggest, just the best. Founded in 1958, Pace Academy, educates 1015 students in grades pre-1st through 12. The average Upper School class size is 11 and the average whole-school student teacher ratio is 9:1. The faculty averages 16 years of teaching experience, 10 years at Pace Academy. Of the 53 Upper School teachers, 10% hold Ph.D.s. 25% of the class of 2010 earned National Merit recognition. The average SAT score for the class was 1312. 90% of 2010 Pace seniors taking an Advanced Placement exam scored three (out of five)or higher. Nationally, 14.6% of tested 2010 high school seniors scored three or higher. Pace was cited as an exceptional ethical learning community by N.A.I.S. and was one of 10 independent schools studied by the Institute for Global Ethics. The results appeared in the N.A.I.S. Schools of Integrity Report on Best Practices of Independent Schools. Pace was one of Atlanta's first schools to integrate service into the curriculum and make it a graduation requirement. Last year, the Upper School students contributed more than 9,000 service hours (seniors averaged 78 hours during their time at Pace). In 2004, Pace Service Learning was recognized for Excellence in Developing Student Leadership by the Council for Spiritual & Ethical Education. The school partners with 13 community service agencies. 84% of Middle and Upper School students participate in at least one of Pace Academy's 54 athletic teams. Of 21 varsity teams last year, 15 reached the state playoffs. This fall, Pace launched a girls JV lacrosse and boys JV football program. Pace has won the Georgia High School Association State Debate Championship 22 times in the past 23 years. The 2002 debate team won the national championship. Last year, Pace students won 12 regional and national art awards. In the 2010 National WordMasters competition, the 5th grade placed 1st in the nation. The year-long competition consisted of more than 700 teams at each grade level.N.A.I.S. - National Association of Independent Schools
