The Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, founded in 1867, has continued to serve as an independent Catholic, college preparatory school for girls, offering instruction from pre-kindergarten school through upper school. Little Hearts, a separate Early Learning Center for 2 and 3 year-old girls, is also a division of the school. The Rosary, as Sacred Heart is affectionately called, is part of an international group of academic institutions directed by the Society of the Sacred Heart, a teaching order founded in France in 1800 by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat.
