Amherst Montessori School is a non-profit independent school serving families throughout the Pioneer Valley. AMS children range in age from 10 months to 12 years of age. Following the Montessori curriculum, our children study in multi-age groups at four levels: Young Toddler/Toddler, Children's House, Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary. By providing an environment rich in learning materials and opportunities, the Montessori teacher enables the child to apply his/her curiosity in the most enriching way possible. Montessori teacher follows the child in his/her learning, actively. The teachers are scientists of child learning. They take copious notes and observe the children, following them, yet guiding them.
Our programs incorporate art, music, Spanish, physical education, and an integrated Peace curriculum.
To build a peaceful world, one child at a time, Amherst Montessori School nurtures the unfolding of each child’s clear intellect, healthy spirit, and strong character.
Private schools, including parochial and boarding, are funded through tuition and fees. The cost varies from school to school, but most families pay tuition to attend them. Many private schools offer financial aid or discounts, so it's worthwhile to ask about these options.
