Delaware Valley Friends School is a coed Quaker college preparatory school serving students with learning differences in grades 6-12. A national leader in the field of language-based learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, auditory processing, ADHD and executive function challenges. Delaware Valley Friends employs proven research-based instructional techniques and innovative technologies to help students build the skills they will need to become life-long learners. It offers a full array of arts, athletics, and extracurricular opportunities and an outstanding adventure learning program for a well-rounded educational experience. Delaware Valley Friends is known for small classes, individual attention, and a supportive community based on Quaker values that honors differences and builds students' confidence so that they can succeed in school and beyond. On average, 98% of graduates go on to college and university level studies. Located in Paoli, Pa., within walking distance of the SEPTA and AMTRAK lines, the school serves students from across the extended Delaware Valley region, including New Jersey and Delaware. DVFS's Adolescent Literacy Program is the only Orton-Gillingham based school program in the tri-state region that has been accredited by both leading organizations in the field of LD education: IMSLEC (International Multisensory Structured Language education Council) and IDA(International Dyslexia Association).

Curriculum

College preparatory with Orton-Gillingham based reading and writing remediation program embedded throughout the curriculum. Provides support for ADHD and executive function challenges. Explicit instruction in metacognition - how each individual student learns best - and self-advocacy skills and strategies.

Middle School Program (grades 6-8) combines AMLE standards of mid-level education with best practices in educating adolescent with language-based learning disabilities.

The school develops those personal strengths which enable students to succeed in its college preparatory curriculum. The school also recognizes that it has a responsibility to share its expertise with teachers and students beyond the school community.

Extracurriculars

DVFS has a wide range of extracurricular opportunities available to students from interscholastic sports (80% student participation) to arts (75% student participation), clubs, service and social activities. Performing arts options include DV Singers (vocal ensemble), DV Rock Band, DV Drummers, and Middle School Drama and Movement. Clubs include Diversity Club, Social Justice Club, Tea Club, and Student Government. In addition, school-wide community service projects and social activities such as movie and game nights and school dances round out school life at DVFS.
