Westside Preparatory Charter School's Full Profile
Westside Preparatory Charter School says
As a response to the wishes of the community, parents and school staff, the former Rio Linda School District, teamed to form the Westside Preparatory Charter School (WPCS). Westside is a unique school in the following ways: Teachers a Westside know every student and ensure none falls through the cracks. In the middlegrades, this relationship is enhanced by the structure of the students' day with core block scheduling. Instead of spending 50 minute periods with several teachers each day, students spend a core block iwth their language arts/history teacher and another core block with their math/science teacher. This give flexibility needed for project-based learning. Common Core State Standards focus students to think deeply and critically, collaborate with others and cultivate communication skills. Daily physical education helps also helps students strengthen body and mind.
WPCS is located on three different school sites in the Twin Rivers Unified School District. The Westside campus in Rio Linda, the Eastside campus in North Highlands, and the Frontier campus in Foothill Farms.
Emphasizes higher academic standards, and offers 4-period departmentalized core subjects with six electives offered during the year in the afternoon.
The Mission of Westside Preparatory Charter School is to establish a working partnership with students and their families to encourage personal responsibility and to provide a challenging curriculum with the goal of empowering students to meet the many and varied challenges of the future.
Public charter schools are supported through lower levels of direct, public funding, as well as though private subsidies. As with district public schools, they do not charge tuition to students who attend them.
AYP is a measurement defined by the United States federal No Child Left Behind Act that allows the U.S. Department of Education to determine how every public school and school district in the country is performing academically according to results on standardized tests.
