Overview

Indian Springs School says

Driven by its mission to develop in students a love of learning, a sense of integrity and moral courage, and an ethic of participatory citizenship, Indian Springs School is a community of talented boarding and day students and dedicated, award-winning faculty committed to the belief that in learning to balance individual achievement with the values and principles of democracy, students can develop to their full potential. Named by "Business Insider" in 2015 one of the smartest boarding schools in the nation, Indian Springs seeks to prepare students not just for college but for the world by providing an excellent, comprehensive core curriculum and by encouraging students to explore and engage both in class and out. A broad array of electives, AP classes, and independent studies allows students to push themselves to new heights, and creative excellence beckons—in the arts, on the field, in student government, in student-run clubs and service projects, and in the school’s new, state-of-the art classrooms, which opened in August 2015 thanks to the generosity of many dedicated alumni, families, and friends. Each year, Indian Springs brings together about 300 students from across the country and around the world—building bridges among people and cultures and creating opportunities for new styles of learning, understanding, and growth—on the school’s beautiful, 350-acre campus nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains just outside Birmingham. The intimate setting offers the security of a small-town environment; chances to take part in outdoor recreation and organic gardening; and proximity to a thriving metropolitan area known for its world-class cultural institutions and a renowned restaurant scene. Here, inspired by the motto Learning Through Living and the school’s six core values—innovative thinking, intellectual curiosity, integrity, inclusion, infinite respect, and involvement—students are happy as they discover both who they are and who they want to be.
