Students are educated in an intimate environment, averaging 17 students per classroom. They receive the benefits of age-specific education methodologies, while thriving in the school community that spans a wide range of ages. Excellent academics are reflected in student achievement. Standardized testing scores are consistantly above the national norms. Many of our students continue to excel in high school and attain advanced placement classes and honor roll status. The highly-qualified faculty combines many years of teaching experience, and Sister Kathleen Donnelly, O.P., principal and Sacred Heart School graduate, creates an atmosphere of warmth, vision and academic excellence. Sacred Heart School students plan and attend weekly masses and holiday prayer and reconciliation services, as well as daily religion classes. An emphasis on service is reflected in the many service projects initiated and completed by students in recent years.
The curriculum is rooted in a base of rigorous academic standards set by the Common Core and the Office of Catholic Schools of Chicago. The curriculum is further enhanced to challenge each student's academic potential, stimulate intellectual curiosity, develop critical thinking skills and nurture the desire for life long learning. SHS teachers shape the curriculum to meet the differing needs of students as they progress through levels of learning. The content, techniques, and structure employed are designed to reflect students' changing capabilities.
Educating Hearts and Minds
Private schools, including parochial and boarding, are funded through tuition and fees. The cost varies from school to school, but most families pay tuition to attend them. Many private schools offer financial aid or discounts, so it's worthwhile to ask about these options.
