Meridian Academy is a project-based, secondary school that serves students in grades six through twelve from throughout Boston and the surrounding communities. By carrying out long-term original projects, Meridian students become experienced problem solvers, questioners, and community members. As an independent school, our teachers and studnets have the freedom to focus on the skills and ideas that support life-long learning.
Meridian students engage in long-term projects as a way to both master the core information and skills associated with a subject as well as to understand how to apply those understandings in new and unfamiliar contexts. Original research, writing, and the arts are strands that are integrated across our three core domains: the Humanities; Mathematics, Science, and Technology; and World Languages.
In their junior year, all students propose and carry out a year-long original investigation.
Meridian Academy mentors students in a small, vibrant community to become creative, questioning, analytical learners and thoughtful, involved citizens. Our curriculum incorporates the best practices from both progressive and traditional schooling, encouraging students to embrace the joys and challenges of lifelong discovery. Students develop integrity, perseverance, compassion, courage, and a passion for learning and creating that they take with them to other places and stages of life.

Middle and high school students are involved in a number of extracurricular activities: theater (performing, directing, and technical work), multi-genre band (for singers and instrumentalists), model United Nations (with coaching opportunities for high school students), mentoring, yearbook, rock-climbing club, animal care committees, technology committee, and more. New opportunities are added according to student interest and initiative.
