I am a sophomore in Macaulay Honors College at Queens College. I study English Literature and Classics, along with a minor in the humanities. I hope to one day obtain my PhD and teach college classes. In my high school, I took an AP Latin class where the teacher asked me to tutor freshmen struggling with the subject. I really enjoyed this, and I began to tutor classmates in needed areas such as physics, and English. When I entered college I began to volunteer in educational children's events, promoting fun while leaning. Every Sunday I currently volunteer at a homeless shelter nearby, where serve as a mentor to children and help them do craft activities while helping them learn. I tutor by having students write down all the information given, and step-by-step, allow them to figure out how to get from what they have to what they need. This especially helps visual learners (such as myself). For auditory learners, I like to repeat key facts numerous times so they may learn through repetition. I also like to promote good organization skills, for I believe this impacts a student's thinking. Most importantly, as both a tutor and a mentor, I like to encourage students and have them enjoy what they are learning.Fun Facts: I enjoy reading, writing, and sewing. In my spare time I volunteer in my community, and make jewelry. Currently, I am working on a quilt out of my family's old clothing.
