I have been teaching ESL for over 20 years, both in the classroom and as a tutor, and have worked with students of all levels and from many language backgrounds. Over the years, I've taught as a profession and also as a volunteer in the U.S. and overseas. I'm excited about teaching all areas of English, from speaking to grammar and writing. I have experience teaching Business English to ex-pats as well as everyday English to students who want to improve their English skills and fluency. I earned a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the New School in New York, and also a Master's Degree from Columbia University in Russian Language and Literature and Soviet Affairs. Prior to that, I received a BA in Russian Language and Literature from Tulane University. It's actually not necessary that your tutor speak your native language in order to communicate and for you to learn quickly. I will assess a student's needs and create a lesson plan to focus on your goals in English. We can work on whatever areas you prefer: conversation, grammar, writing - it's really up to you! These classes are for you, to help you improve. Better English skills will give you greater opportunities socially and in your career, and I welcome the chance to help you.

Noodle says

Takelessons started as a platform to for music teachers, and is still strongest on that front. It provides tutors with organizational software designed to help track lessons, and so probably attracts more tech-friendly, highly organized tutors. No vetting or training is provided for tutors, so we highly recommend that you use their ratings and reviews when selecting a tutor.

TakeLessons says

Success in learning often depends on finding the right teacher; someone that not only has expertise in the subject, but also knows how to inspire. The teaching style that works for one student may not work for another. As a parent or student, how do you find the right match? As a teacher, how do you find new students that fit your style? TakeLessons bridges this gap.
