William S.

Hi! My name is Will Slattery and I am a junior English major at the University of Portland. I grew up in Los Angeles, California, spent my sophomore year abroad in Salzburg, Austria, and am now happily settled here in Portland. While my primary strength is writing, my interest in the sciences has given me a well-rounded education that has allowed me to feel confident tutoring students in many disciplines. In Los Angeles I had the opportunity to tutor high school students through a few different volunteer programs. I loved meeting new students and facing new challenges each time I tutored, so I decided to pursue tutoring further. Upon entering college, I frequently volunteered with the Moreau Center which tutors students at Roosevelt High School in Portland. In January 2012, I began tutoring professionally with Frog Tutoring and I am excited about the opportunity to begin tutoring and mentoring new students! In high school I was an incredibly unmotivated student. My parents tried vehemently to help me understand the importance of an education, but nothing and no one could inspire me. In my junior year of high school, I had an amazing teacher who realized my shortcomings and potential and took me under his wing. After spending every day after school in his classroom, my eyes widened and I simply couldn’t get enough knowledge. I began to actually enjoy going to not only his class, but to all of my classes. I had finally realized the value of an education. As a tutor, I hope to inspire students to not only care about the particular subject they need additional help in, but to care about truly learning and understanding. I firmly believe that every student can succeed in any subject. All it takes is identifying the root of the problem, approaching the material from a new angle, and taking time to show students that they can do it.Fun Facts: I love music. When I’m not busy with school, I can pretty much guarantee that you will find me listening to or playing music. I play guitar in a band here in Portland, and my dream is to make music my career. I listen to almost every genre of music, but some of my favorite artists are Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Radiohead and the Wu Tang Clan. I also enjoy reading and writing in my spare time. As an avid cyclist and backpacker, I love spending time outdoors.

Frog Tutoring says

In 2009, Roland Omene, a TCU bio-chemistry graduate, founded Frog Tutoring. The company originated in Fort Worth, TX, and is quickly expanding to cities all over the country. Frog Tutoring was founded under the belief that all students deserve tutoring regardless of age. We believe the first step in successful tutoring is finding the “right” tutor. That is why we only hire the top students and graduates from local colleges in the area. Each one of our well-trained tutors specializes in at least one area of expertise and is eager to aid in the academic success of the students they tutor. Frog Tutors are not just intelligent individuals, but role models who inspire their students to achieve success both academically and personally. - See more at: http://frogtutoring.com/about_us#sthash.ov47ISCO.dpuf
