Hello!! Since graduating from the Percussion Institute of Technology (PIT) in 1989 I have given over 12,000 private lessons to students of all ages!! I have recorded several albums, toured around the globe and taught at drumming events across the country. I teach all styles of contemporary drum set and marching snare drum. In 2010, I was named "Educator of the Year" by the drumming web site "United Groove Workers". I am a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and The Professional Drum Teachers Guild. I am endorsed by Vic Firth Drum Sticks and Supernatural Cymbals. I am experienced with special needs students (autism, down syndrome) and children as young as 4 years old. *** Lesson Details *** My method is based on the idea that STUDENTS WANT TO PLAY SONGS!! I have found that if we concentrate on learning songs right away that I can teach a student how to read music and all of the technical aspects of playing the drum set WHILE HAVING FUN!! Withing the first two lessons, I will have a student playing a simple rock song. As each song is mastered we will move along into songs that introduce new rhythms, coordination and styles. We will play rock songs, jazz, funk, country and snare drum pieces. I have found that this method keeps students interested, encourages good practice habits and helps them to "Think like a musician". Have a favorite song??? Bring it to me and we will learn it!! *** Studio Equipment *** At all the various studios I use, there is at least one drum set (Gilmore has two). I always bring a set of good cymbals, a bass drum pedal (double if we need it), books and materials as needed. You need to bring sticks, your homework folder and hearing protection!! *** Travel Equipment *** It works best if the student has a drum set at home (Electronic or Acoustic). Snare drummers need only a practice pad. *** Specialties *** All styles of drum set: Rock, jazz, big band, funk, fusion, hip hop, latin, metal. Marching Snare Drum

About

Lesson Details My method is based on the idea that STUDENTS WANT TO PLAY SONGS!!

Noodle says

Takelessons started as a platform to for music teachers, and is still strongest on that front. It provides tutors with organizational software designed to help track lessons, and so probably attracts more tech-friendly, highly organized tutors. No vetting or training is provided for tutors, so we highly recommend that you use their ratings and reviews when selecting a tutor.

TakeLessons says

Success in learning often depends on finding the right teacher; someone that not only has expertise in the subject, but also knows how to inspire. The teaching style that works for one student may not work for another. As a parent or student, how do you find the right match? As a teacher, how do you find new students that fit your style? TakeLessons bridges this gap.
