Guitarist Philip Logan, born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, began his musical studies at a young age, and continued playing various instruments until he found his love for the classical guitar, at age 13. He was accepted to Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, named by the Grammy Foundation as the top performing arts high school in the nation. After high school, Philip received a scholarship to attend Stetson University, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Robinson. While there, he was able to refine his skills and learn a great deal about the interpretation of music on the guitar. After receiving a Bachelor’s of Music, Philip became an instructor at University High School in Orange City, Florida. There he directed the guitar program, which he created from the ground up. Outside of teaching, Philip performed professionally (guitar and voice) around Central Florida in various groups and styles of music, including Rock, Pop, and Jazz. Since then, he has been awarded a full scholarship to the University of Akron as a Teaching Assistant, and is currently working towards his Master’s under the tutelage of Stephen Aron. Philip has performed many times for the School of Music, including their annual collaborative event, “Collage”. He has has played a number of feature concerts and has been able to play in masterclasses with David Russell, Andrew York, Dusan Bogdanovic, Roland Dyens, Michael Chapdelaine, and many other great artists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am a graduate of Stetson University and, more recently, a Graduate Assistant at The University of Akron. Also, I regularly perform in professional groups across a broad spectrum of genres. Another passion of mine is digital arts, in which I minored during college. With professional experience in Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live, and Max/MSP (sound design and music programming), I am well versed in this art. I have also performed and recorded in various groups around central Florida, including Run Rhino, LLC, Strings Attached, various classical guitar quartets, and my own solo recitals. I have played with artists such as Lifehouse, Slow Ride, Starship (Jefferson Starship), Molly Hatchet, and many others. Some of my influences include: Manuel Barrueco, John Williams, Charles Ives, Edward Elgar, Jeff Buckley, Bjork, Justice, DeadMou5, Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Stephen Robinson, Led Zeppelin, Ana Vidovic, Hans Zimmer, Clint Mansell, and so on. *** Lesson Details *** The first step will be evaluating the student's musical and technical skill level, then I build a curriculum from that point. As an example, a beginning student would learn how to read music, play basic rhythms, use proper left and right hand technique, and the notes in the first position on individual strings. After I have evaluated the current level of the student and their musical interest, I will begin to move my curriculum around their various needs. *** Studio Equipment *** I will have a music stand for you to use at your lesson. Takelessons started as a platform to for music teachers, and is still strongest on that front. It provides tutors with organizational software designed to help track lessons, and so probably attracts more tech-friendly, highly organized tutors. No vetting or training is provided for tutors, so we highly recommend that you use their ratings and reviews when selecting a tutor.

TakeLessons says

Success in learning often depends on finding the right teacher; someone that not only has expertise in the subject, but also knows how to inspire. The teaching style that works for one student may not work for another. As a parent or student, how do you find the right match? As a teacher, how do you find new students that fit your style? TakeLessons bridges this gap.
