Methods of Moving Clips into the Timeline - Final Cut Pro X

The Timeline is where you can trim, edit, adjust and move the video and audio clips you have recorded.? 1. Clicking and Dragging The get clips into the Timeline, first open them up in the Event Library?and Browser windows. From there, you can set your in and out points to create a trimmed clip, then click and hold on the clip while dragging it to the Timeline.? You can either place this new clip on top of another one that's already in the Timeline, or you can place it inside a clip that's already there and essentially replace it. If you drag a clip to the Timeline and release it into a clip that's already there, you'll be given some options to choose from: * Replace * Replace from Start * Replace from End * Replace and add to Audition * Add to Audition If you drag a clip to the Timeline and place it on top of another one, it will override the previous clip and play over it. This is generally what some of your edits will most likely be. 2. Inserting Final Cut Pro X also comes equipped with some Insert options. These buttons are located in the bar that separates the Event Library and Browser windows from the Timeline, and they allow you to insert a chosen clip in different ways with a single click of the mouse. The following Insert options are available: * Connect the selected clip to the primary storyline (this will place the selected clip on top of another clip in the Timeline) * Insert the selected clip in the primary storyline or the selected storyline (this method separates the audio from the video and inserts the selected clip between two other clips) * Insert the selected clip at the end of the storyline If you click on the arrow to the right of these Insert buttons, you'll reveal a drop down menu from which you can choose to add the video of the clip only, the audio only or all.
