Thanksgiving crafts such as a pinecone turkey can be a fun way to decorate your home or Thanksgiving event. Homemade crafts can be created from some basic supplies and can offer an activity for children around the holidays. The pinecone turkey is suitable for an older child to make under adult supervision due to the use of a hot glue gun. For younger children, a school glue could be substituted as a safety precaution, but each piece will need to dry longer than if affixed with hot glue. Thanksgiving is traditionally a time to give thanks with friends or family members over a large meal highlighting a cooked turkey. As the Thanksgiving meal is one of the focal points of the holiday, decorations and crafts are often suitable for adorning the dining table, buffet or room where the meal will be served. Step 1: Gather Supplies --------------------------------------------------------------------- Obtain an orange pipe cleaner, a pinecone, some feathers, googly eyes, a doll's head, a wood base, scissors and a glue gun. Select a pinecone that balances with the wood base you select and offers a pleasing shape. You can select any feathers you prefer, but opt for ones that are natural for a more realistic appearance. Step 2: Create Turkey Feet --------------------------------------------------------------------- Cut two, two-inch sections from your orange pipe cleaner with your scissors. Fold each piece in half. Take your glue gun and attache each piece to the bottom of your pinecone to create the turkey's feet. Place the glue where your pipe cleaner is bent and affix both feet on the bigger end of your pinecone and the loose ends pointing towards the smaller end of the pinecone. Step 3: Add the Turkey Components --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glue your pinecone with the feet side down onto your wooden slab. Run a doubled piece of pipe cleaner through the hole in your doll's head to create the turkey's beak. Spread the pipe cleaner ends slightly. Glue both googly eyes onto the dolls head on either side of the beak. Glue the head onto the top of your pinecone. Gather your feathers together and place glue on the stick ends of the feathers. Attach the feathers to the large end of the pine cone. Your Thanksgiving pinecone turkey is now ready for display. Read more by visiting our page at:
