Step 1: Plan your garden Plan your plants. Grow plants that shelter aphid predators, like Queen Anne's lace, sweet fennel, spearmint, and white sweet clover. Step 2: Put on gloves and remove aphids Put on soft cotton gloves and remove the aphids from plant leaves by hand. Step 3: Dip in water Dip the leaves of delicate plants in water to knock off aphids. Use a strong spray of water on sturdy plants. Step 4: Bury banana peels Cut up banana peels and bury them 1 to 2 inches deep around the base of the plant. Tip Do not bury whole banana peels because they can attract other animals such as squirrels and raccoons. Step 5: Introduce lady bugs Counter aphid infestation with ladybugs. Ladybugs can be purchased at many garden centers and are a natural and efficient way to control aphids. Step 6: Pour soap Mix a couple teaspoons of dish soap in a spray bottle of lukewarm water and coat the plant once or twice a week. Did You Know? Aphids are born live, female, and pregnant, becoming reproducing adults in about 7 days.
