The New Common Application (aka the CA4)

Starting August 1st, students applying to college using the Common Application(generally referred to as the common app) will be seeing some major changes.

The next generation Common App, known as CA4, has many technological advances to keep up with tech savvy high school seniors. This new paperless application aims to offer personalized help to the applicant and features a complete makeover to the user interface.

The hope is that this updated application will make applying to college easier and simpler for the hundreds of thousands of students who use theCommon App every year.

So whats new?

Unlimited edits: Applicants will no longer be limited to ten application versions, and will now have the ability to complete an unlimited number of applications. However, the essay will still be limited to three versions.

Paperless application: CA4 is an online-only application, and will no longer have a print version available for students to download and mail in to colleges. However, students can still print-preview the application, so they can see the exact documents colleges will receive.

Smart questions: Applicants will only be given a few questions at once; they will appear only when relevant to a students application.

Onscreen support: Relevant information will appear alongside each question on the application.

Progress checks: There will be continuous status checks so applicants can easily see what they have completed and what they have yet to finish.

Streamlined CEEB: The CA4 includes an easier way to search for applicants desired school codes.
