There is both good and bad things about attending South Gate High School, and ultimately I would agree that it is not the best school. The reason why I would not recommend going to South Gate High is because of the lack of resources. The class sizes are unusually big, averaging out to about 40 students per one teacher. Books are outdated, supplies are scarce, information is unevenly distributed, there is one counselor to 500 students, which makes it difficult to be aware of scholarship opportunities, and there are many students who do not take advantage of the opportunities that are handed to them.
All encompassing, there are too many factors that lead me to believe that I would not have attended South Gate High School. I was not aware of the lack of resources that my school suffered from until I met with students outside of LAUSD who told me stories about how they have laptops available to them and that there are only 20 students per class, and that they even receive free SAT Prep, which was fascinating to me! Everyone deserves an outstanding education, but with limited resources it can be difficult to achieve.
