What’s considered “good” to one student may be different to what’s considered “good” for another. If you are looking to study and learn about African-American history, an HBCU such as Howard University may just be the institution for you.

According to the Department Chair the Department is particularly involved with Africa and the United States. American history is one of the Department's strengths and the faculty relate the major themes of the United States experience to issues of particular relevance to the African American community.

The Department of History at Howard University offers a wide-range of undergraduate courses in United States History, European History, African History, African Diaspora, Latin American and Caribbean History and Geography.

Students who are history majors will be assigned a faculty member who can guide and advise the student during his/her undergraduate years at Howard.

Howard University is, overall, a significant and competitive college. While many of the college's programs are nationally ranked by U.S. News, political science doesn't appear to be one of them.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of other evaluative information on the political science program specifically. To learn more, I recommend visiting the webpage of Howard's political science department. I also recommend calling the department directly at (202) 806-6720, or emailing it at [email protected].

Here is a list of some top political science programs in the U.S. You can learn more about each of these schools by searching for them on the Noodle College Locator.

Best of luck! Feel free to ask another follow up question any time!
