If a student has no desire for learning or achieving success, then he does not belong at West High. He would feel out of place, because most students here are driven to learn everything there is to learn and to succeed in life.

Students who are uninterested in being successful or in learning should not attend Merrill F. West High School, because such students won't get very far in high school in general and will only inhibit the progress of others who actually are interested in bettering themselves through education. Many students attend this school because they want to, and this desire and motivation to learn and improve is what allows them to succeed. By not participating in classes or not actively taking part in one's own education, such students will only be wasting the time of both teachers and fellow students, because many are here with one main purpose in mind, and that is to learn and go to college in order to one day have a successful and enjoyable career and life. Such a goal can be quite demanding and requires persistence and hard work from both teachers and students. If a student is unwilling to put in the effort, then this goal can not be met, and not only will this student get in the way of his or her own success, but he or she will also be wasting the time and effort put in by teachers, who want nothing less than to help students succeed. This is disrespectful and even discouraging for teachers and other students who do want to work hard and reach their goals, so if a student does not want to take part in this endeavor, then he or she is not cut out for our school.
