Student, West Aurora High School, Class of 2016,
I would say that the three most popular extracurricular activities at West Aurora High School are Breakthrough, DECA, and Best Buddies. Breakthrough meets once a week in the morning before school starts. During this time, students come together and pray for the school, the students and many other things going on in the community. There are many students involved in this club and it brings everyone together. DECA is geared towards students who are looking to go into business when they graduate. It teaches students about many aspects of business and helps them practice their debating skills. They take a few field trips a year to compete with other schools and some even make it to nationals where they get to travel around the country competing. It is a very good program and many students take advantage of it. Best Buddies is another very popular extracurricular activity. It is a program where kids meet with special needs kids and build friendships through helping them with homework, going on field trips, and just spending time with them. Many students are involved in Best Buddies and everyone who is in it loves it. It helps students build relationships and boosts their confidence. Students automatically make tons of new friends just by joining. I would recommend all of these extracurricular activities as well as Paws Club. Paws Club organizes fundraisers and supply drives to help out local animal shelters. It is a great club and allows students to help the animals in their community.
