Student, Martin Luther King Jr. High School, Class of 2015,
Since entry to my school is based upon either being enrolled at a feeder school or being drawn from the lottery (that's how I received my admission), we have a vast variety of students at my school. It isn't a typical public school, although it is still considered a public school. Our school is a science and math academic magnet school which means that students are required to go above and beyond in those subjects. The purpose of an academic magnet is to further a student's education in the best way possible, so the curriculum is often times more rigorous than not. This is expected to be good college preparatory. While I may not exactly appreciate it during the school year, it's definitely beneficial (which I learned at the beginning of this year, since I transferred over during sophomore year). The type of student that should attend MLK is a student that is serious about his or her future and bettering the education they have previously attained.
