Oakton Community College is an environment that attracts a culturally diverse group of students of all ages. Typically, I have encountered two types of students. The younger students use Oakton as a transitioning platform from high school to a four year college. These students are often still settling into their personal philosophies, beliefs, interests, and of course, learning mechanisms. The older students I've met have ranged from veterans to entrepreneurs looking to expand upon their education to further their knowledge and skills. This type of student is more organized, driven, and is more likely to challenge the material in order to gain, usually, a practical understanding.
