I do not think there is a pat answer for this! I think that if you decide to go to a large school like Virginia Tech., you need to be open to new opportunities. You have to be willing to go out of your comfort level and make new friends, as well as be willing to focus on school. School has to be first and foremost and is very challenging. You need to be able to make and keep to schedules that allow you time for classes and down time.

There is no "typical" VT student. We all come from different backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles. Seriously, anyone could come to VT campus and feel at home within a week because they would be able to find a group of people with their same beliefs. On the flip side, I came from a place that everyone pretty much had the same beliefs (Small Town, USA) and the fact that VT doesn't have a "typical" student was refreshing and introduced me to new ideas/cultures/etc.

Although the majority of the students attending this school are white, race and ethnicity do not matter. Any person whatsoever their background or personality with or without disability should attend Virginia Tech. I am myself a minority and was introverted, but when I started attending this school, I felt as if a new world opened up to me. The environment and the people are warm, welcoming and would do anything to make one feel included. Diversity is encouraged, but in the end we are an unified community made of different people special in their own ways.
