Student, Spanish River Community High School, Class of 2016,
Walking through the halls of Spanish River High School, students finds posters and pamphlets all around promoting all the different activities going on.
One of the most common posters a student might see promotes the academies. The academies are special classes that students take throughout all four years in high school and specialize in an area such as Law and History, Biotechnology or Entrepreneurship. For example, I have been an active member of the History and Law academy. While in the academy, I have learned in depth about American History and law in America. I would strongly recommend these academies to a student at Spanish River because it gives a smaller classroom and allows you to learn in depth about a single topic for a long period of time.
In addition to the academies, students will hear many announcements and see fliers about the variety of sporting events. Spanish River offers every sport possible and while our football team may not be the greatest, many other teams excel. I have been on the cross country and track and field team for the past four years and it has not only motivated me to work hard but it has introduced me to my best friends. Joining a sport is an easy way to meet peers who have similar interests.
Lastly, while strolling through the halls of Spanish River, it is clearly evident the plethora of clubs offered. Most students are members of a club that relates to their interest or they have started their own club. In my time at Spanish River, I founded the Samaritans 365 Club. This club promotes doing good acts in the community and helping out people in need. Although my club might not be the most popular one at Spanish River, some of the most common ones, include DECA and Key Club. I would recommend to a future student at Spanish River to take advantage of the vast opportunities available and join and become an active member of clubs.
