Student, Hoehne High School, Class of 2016,
Hoehne School is a pretty small school and we often lack a lot of extracurricular activities that other, larger schools may have. However, despite this, we still have quite a few interesting activities.
One of the very popular groups is Future Farmers of America or FFA. It is an interesting organization that teaches students about the ranching and farm life along with multiple other things such as welding and building, livestock judging, and parliamentary procedure. While this organization wasn't my cup of tea, it is very popular and an excellent group to join.
Another group that is very popular is Future Business Leaders of America or FBLA. This one focuses completely on teaching students the business part of the world. I was in this group for three of my high school years. Last year I was even the president of the group. This group offers a lot of opportunities to compete in several business-like events. I highly recommend this group due to the rewards it offers. Thanks to the group, I developed a lot of confidence. Now job interviews don't worry me, and I am able to speak with people in a formal manner. Also, I got a classy business suit that makes me look professional!
Finally, the last group I recommend and is also very popular is called Speech and Debate. This group basically teaches students about performing through acting and public speaking. The students can become an actor of your own piece, write a ten minute speech on a topic and present to people, and debate on current topics. Students actually I always wrote ten minute speeches and presented it to people. Doing this for several years helped build my confidence and allow me to write long papers quickly and comfortably. Now I can go in front of a group of 50 people and talk to them with ease and the daunting task of writing a several-page paper is no longer there. The group itself is very fun. We have our laughs, we play our games, and we just have a great time.
These are the three groups that I would recommend any student to take. All three of them offer a large amount of rewards to the students wishing to seek these opportunities that last a lifetime.
