All the students I've met here are critical thinkers. We question things that others take for granted, and we have a fascination with all things--ordinary and mundane. We all are very proud of our tendency to see the bigger picture while still having great attention to detail. A student hoping to come here will be welcomed with open arms if they can balance have an analytical mind and a curious spirit.

The motto that I feel fits most students here at the University of Illinois is "Work hard, play hard". As a flagship university, there is obviously a tremendous amount of talent here. There are so many brilliant students here that give the university the academic prowess that it has. That being said, (almost) everybody has to work incredibly hard to maintain good grades and match the expectations of the classes they are in. On the other hand, as a large university social life is also crucial to a large portion of campus. This is why I feel that motto perfectly sums up the mindset of a typical student here.

The typical UIUC student is not typical. Everyone here has their own face and their own personality. But with a top-ranking business school and with each of our engineering programs ranking in the top 20 spots in the country, every individual here also understands the true potential of themselves along with that of their peers.

The typical U of I student is very forward thinking is liberal usually. Most U of I students I have come across are extremely confident and have great leadership skills. In order to stand out at U of I, you have to be doing your absolute best or else someone else will. I have several classmates who already have their own businesses, or have created their own apps or websites. If you're only going to college to go to class, you won't make it at U of I.

Anyone who is highly motivated and willing to work hard to find the best opportunities for themselves belong at University of Illinois. Anyone who is comfortable with lots of diversity both in nationality, language, and cultural background also belongs because you meet many types of students both from the US and abroad who are all here to get a degree and you actually learn a lot by making friends with students who come from different backgrounds. A U of I student has lots of school spirit and will without fail cheer as hard and long as they can for their team, and even throw in a few clever puns for the opposing team :) A lot of students are fantastic networkers or learn how to be because of the school's history of strong connections with successful alumni and ways for students to reach out to alumni for help and further experience in their field.
