The type of students who should not attend Brooks College Preparatory Academy are those who search for short-cuts through every hardship in life. These are the students who often procrastinate, the students who don't study and who barely turn in their practice work. Unfortunately, not everyone at Gwendolyn Brooks has a strong commitment and mental endurance. These are the students who will give half their effort on projects and quizzes because they know they'll have a chance to better the grade soon after. If you are to attend Brooks you will have to stay dedicated 100%, the minute you slack off you immediately fall behind, some students find it easier to just give half effort and deal with the catch-up work continuously. This is bad work ethic and is against the ultimate goal of Gwendolyn Brooks, to mentally prepare you for not only college, but for the real world.

Students should not attend Brooks if they are lazy or unmotivated. They shouldn't attend if they aren't willing to try, or give their full effort in all classes. They shouldn't attend if they aren't willing to take honors and AP courses, as those are the majority of classes offered.

Brooks is a selective enrollment school, you have to get a high enough score to be accepted into Brooks. Secondly if you show no effort into school Brooks will question why should you be accepted into this school; what can you do to make this school better? Lastly if you have a major disciplinary record Brooks will also question if you would cause trouble to our school or not.

Brooks is not the school for a person who is not motivated, does not complete their work, needs constant attention and is not prepared for a life outside of high school. However, the school is capable of molding anyone into the best student they can be so long as that student cooperates.

You should not attend this school if you plan to do nothing in life. You don't have to know exactly what you want to do, but you have to be aiming towards something. If you are a person who only talks about what can change instead of being the person to lead the change, you should not come here. If you don't want to be involved in the community and happenings around the school, do not come here, because there is always something going on, and someone will always try to get you involved.
