Because Medgar Evers is a 6th-12th grade school, you have to look at the ELA and math tests for the middle-school students and the Regents exams for the high school students. Also, the content tested on the 3rd-8th grade state exams and the passing score cutoffs changed in 2010, so it's difficult to compare from year to year. In addition, the tests were aligned with the Common Core standards for the 2012-2013 academic year, which led to sharp drops in many schools' scores. A lot of people believe that these standards are much more demanding than those previously used. Below are the results for the two groups of Medgar Evers students from 2010-2013 (the most readily available scores):

Middle School students who scored 3 or 4 (considered passing) on state ELA and math exams: • 2010-2011: 77.7% ELA, 91.3% math • 2011-2012 85.4% ELA, 94% math • 2012-2013 61.5% ELA, 64.7% math

High School students' Regents exams pass percentages:

2010-11 • English: 62.1% • Math: 93.9% • Science: 66.7% • Global History: 73.9% • US History: 87%

2011-2012: • English: 73% • Math: 77.5% • Science: 92.6% • Global History: 83% • US History: 58.6%

2012-2013 • English: 58.6% • Math 79.7% • Science: 100% • Global Studies: 50% • US History: 50%
