Barnard was the only women's college I applied to, but I found it to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my time there. I felt supported by my professors and peers, all dynamic, intelligent, and incredibly driven women with a passion for life and learning.

If you're looking for a "best of both worlds" experience, Barnard is it. It's a small, liberal arts college affiliated with a large research university (Columbia). I took a few classes across the street, but really enjoyed my intimate, round-table discussions at Barnard. I was challenged to question everything and learned how to confidently articulate my point of view.

Another incredible aspect of Barnard is that it's located in one of the greatest cities in the world. Classes like, "New York Film" or "Dance in New York" allow you to immerse your academic experience in the real world. I took advantage of my student status and visited many of the city's museums for free - the Metropolitan Musuem of Art, Moma, Natural History, etc. During the week I'd spend most of my time on campus (so much to do!), but my weekends were dedicated to exploring different neighborhoods downtown.

Since I graduated, it's never ceased to amaze me how expansive and generous the Barnard network is. I've met women, old and young, in various parts of the world, who all share a common understanding that the world is a malleable place and that women have a critical role in helping shape it. The sisterhood that comes with being a part of the Barnard community is a special one, an experience that starts as a student and extends for a lifetime.
