Asked about: what is solving?

Two posts, one 12 feet high and other 28 feet tall, stand 30 feet apart. They are stabilized by two wires running from the tops of each post to single stake driven into the ground in between the two post. Where should the stake be placed in order to use the least amount of wire?

Start off by drawing a picture, then write an equation for the total amount of wire based on what you know---hint: triangles! You'll then need to take a derivative, and use it to find the minimum.
