This question has always baffled me. I tend to be quieter about my education because for a while I was embarrassed about it. My parents had never graduated college and I thought that if I talked too much about MY college people would find out and treat me differently. What I found was that people assumed that Grand Valley was home to a lot of rich kid partiers, these people had never attended Grand Valley. Sure, any college will have the stereotypical students who break the rules and don't take their education seriously but there are also other students that those people hadn't thought of. They don't know that I, a first generation college kid, was able to find a home here and be on the track to graduate with the second degree in my family ever. They didn't meet the guy in my Linguistics class who wants to be a professor so badly that he lives in poverty just so he can attend school. They didn't meet the ELS students attending English classes over the summer so they can start up school at the same time as the other students. What does a typical Grand Valley student look like? Anyone. You can find a home at Grand Valley no matter who you are.

Grand Valley students seem to be very accepting. I know this personally as I was born with one hand, and have been accepted by everybody I have came across. It's nice to know that some people actually care about what's on the inside rather than appearance

Grand Valley accepts all students of different backgrounds. That's what makes it so great. It was a good choice for me because I came from a very small high school and grand valley wasn't so huge that i felt lost and alone. Students can come from poverty or wealthy, all are made to feel a part of a family.
