A typical day at Lowell High School can be hectic. The first period bell rings at 7:55 and the day begins. You proceed to each of your seven classes, trying to get through the crowded hallways. As the bell rings at 2:30, students meet up with friends or go to extracurricular activities. An ideal student at Lowell High School is very social. There are always new people to meet and things to do, so one should be outgoing, adventurous, and willing to try new things.

A typical Lowell student is one who is diligent and hard-working, one who is willing to challenge themselves in this really challenging school, and one who probably lacks sleep. People who should attend Lowell are the ones who are persevering enough to overcome the many challenges that arise from not just any high school, but a high school prioritizes grades over pretty much anything else.

Lowell High School is an alternative public high school that has additional criteria for the application process. Lowell takes into consideration the applicants test score and GPA from 7th and 8th grade. Because Lowell takes the cream of the crop, students are very competitive. The stresses at Lowell are different from other urban high schools. It is much harder to get an "A" in your classes at Lowell because the pool of peers are the best students. Because students are studious, there are less safety (gang and violence). For kids who want to get the most of their high school experience, there are more AP class opportunities than at most high schools. Students who are disciplined and focused in their academics should attend Lowell.
