Student, West Valley High School, Class of 2016,
West Valley is a great school due to all the extracurricular activities that they offer to their students. As for myself, I always loved sports, so I was and am able to do XC running and skiing all four years of my high school career. I was on varsity for XC skiing for three years of high school and was offered many more unique experiences through races and a lot of traveling. I also enjoy debate and government, so I participated in Model UN for the first year this year. It has been a great experience and I have learned so much about the process needed for the UN to succeed in the real world and several of the specific countries involved in the program. Finally, I also joined and took a class on We the People. We the People is a state-wide competition which has students research topics, write a speech, and debate them with local judges, law makers, or important and experienced individuals on the specific topic. This year, my class won the state competition so we have been invited to nationals in Washington DC and hopefully we will be able to go. Finally, it is fairly hard to say which extracurricular activities are most popular at West Valley because there are so many clubs and groups which all have their own significance. However, overall, I think that West Valley exceeds in sports and offers an abundant resource to students from football to soccer to rifle and many more in-between. If I would have to recommend some extracurriculars to another person, I would definitely encourage a sport, and I think that XC running is a great sport for everyone to participate in because it is a very large group of people with many different skill levels, which allows for everyone to be included and have fun. Also, I would recommend both Model UN and We the People because it allows for everyone to learn about the American government and how it functions to succeed nationally and internationally. It is always an important skill to know the laws of the United States of America because as a citizen, a person can have tremendous influence on the nation as a whole. It is amazing to learn and be able to apply all the power a single person has in their hands and that is what West Valley has taught every student in the school.
