The final length of the tie (starting from 2 4ft pieces of cord) appears to be about 6 inches, so for every 8ft of cord you get .5 feet of rope. If you wanted a 6 foot dog leash (with an extra foot for making the handle) you'd want a final length of around 7 feet. So:

.5ft of rope = 8ft of cord

7ft of rope = 112ft of cord (divided into two equal sections measuring 56 ft each)
