If you have a passion that is unlike many people in your community, you will find an entire organization to support you here at UNC. Conversely, if you are completely open to new interests, you will find something you are passionate about either through UNC's outstanding classes, student organization, or peer support.

A down to earth but passionate, ambitious, caring and intellectual person who is involved in the community

Honestly, the school is predominantly white (65-70%), and skews more female (about 60%). There does lack diversity on campus, which is a shock for anyone from a major city, like San Francisco (like myself). Students here also skew a bit more wealthier.

UNC students all come from high schools where they were the top of their class. When they get to campus everyone is the best of the best with a strong drive and a competitive attitude. Students are also largely involved in their communities and this leads to a compassionate and understanding student body.

UNC Chapel Hill has so much to offer, it really does cater to a wide array of students. A top notch education attracts the best and the brightest of course, but there is so much more to college life that can make or break the experience. Chapel Hill boasts a strong college sports culture so someone with interest in watching (or playing!) sports will find UNC Chapel Hill to be a great match. However, there are other aspects of the social and recreational scene in Chapel Hill that go beyond that of college sports. There is a constant stream of live shows at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, tons of local eateries and bars, and relatively close access to the beach and the mountains. So, if you enjoy watching the game with friends at a bar, hiking in the mountains and sleeping in tents, or laying on the beach with good book and an umbrella drink, then you might be a good fit at UNC Chapel Hill.

The UNC campus is so diverse, that it isn't completely possible to pinpoint a typical student. You can meet someone completely different and new everyday. Some of the things that UNC students often have are a passion for the school, a drive for success in academics and activities, a strong sense of community, and an overall drive to make the world around them better.

There is NO specific type of student attending UNC. The university is extremely welcoming to all students from every possible background. One does not have to be from a specific town or have a certain gender, race, ethnicity, social status, religion, or political association to attend UNC. We are only united by our love for the greatest university on Earth: UNC!

A typical student is a hard-working person willing to balance between studies and the college life. I think the power of UNC is that it provides you with an outstanding education and the opportunities to be part of study abroad, internships or part-time jobs. Also, that person must be willing to put passion into the school's pride and hopefully feel the warm service of the town, where everything the student needs is around the school. UNC has been my best decision I have ever made in my life.

UNC-CH students come from all over the world, not to mention, from various states across the US as well. I believe there are over 70 majors/minors one can concentrate on while attending UNC. My point is that every student is completely unique. There is no one type of person that should attend Chapel Hill because it is welcoming to all people, of all walks of life. However, there is one descriptive word that can be used for every single student at UNC-CH. That word is driven. UNC students are driven to strive for excellence. They do not want to be better than any one person, they just want to be the best that they can possibly be. A Tarheel is a person who is resilient, one who will never stop searching for the greatness and success that each person has the possibility of attaining. Tarheels are driven.

Something I absolutely fell in love with when I visited Carolina for the first time were the people. Everyone seems to be so nice and hospitable and generally happy to be here. You won't meet a Tar Heel that's not willing to smile at you. Everyone is so helpful and it creates an overall welcoming atmosphere. An incoming student should expect to have approximately 28,000 friends and should be prepared to be someone else's 28,001st friend.
