Overview

Overview

Montessori Institute of San Diego says

The MISD Children’s House Montessori school was founded in 2003 by Dr. Silvia Dubovoy to serve as the model school for the Montessori Institute of San Diego Teacher Training Center. We currently offer four academic programs: (1) Toddler: 18 mos to 3 years; (2) Primary: 3 to 6 Years; (3) Lower Elementary: ages 6 to 9; and the (4) Arts & Sciences Montessori program for Upper Elementary: ages 9 to 12 years (4th-6th grade).

Curriculum

Montessori classrooms are Prepared Learning Environments designed for children of mixed ages. In this setting the children naturally respect each other’s work and personal space. They take an active role in maintaining their environment, which is divided into different curriculum areas. Specific content varies with age but as an example the Primary Program has: (i) Practical Life, (ii) Sensorial, (iii) Language and (iv) Mathematics. The basic academic curriculum is enriched by science, art, music, gardening, and movement experiences. Each activity responds to the children’s fundamental need for movement, independence and language. Students are also immersed in Spanish as a second language throughout the day.

Mission Statement

The goal of the Montessori Institute of San Diego schools is to guide, nurture and support the development of each individual child. We provide a holistic approach to education where the needs of the whole child are supported and addressed in addition to the academic needs. By providing a peaceful environment with purposeful work, we encourage children to develop a life-long love of learning fueled by their inner curiosity and self-initiative.

Finance

Finance

Private schools, including parochial and boarding, are funded through tuition and fees. The cost varies from school to school, but most families pay tuition to attend them. Many private schools offer financial aid or discounts, so it's worthwhile to ask about these options.
