Are you a born leader? If you are super organized, have awesome communication and people skills; consider majoring in business administration and management.
You’ll study accounting, finance, marketing, statistics, economics, and human resources and come away with strong skills to help you budget, direct, hire and oversee the functions of an organization. No large lectures in this major. Your coursework will be done in small groups, and you’ll most likely minor or concentrate in an area like finance, marketing and international business. Internships will be a must, as well as other areas where can hone your leadership skills (think part-time jobs and business club participation).
Most graduates go on to pursue a master’s degree in business administration (M.B.A.). At the start of the industrial revolution, Frederick Winslow Taylor, author of The Principles of Scientific Management, introduced his approach of training workers to accomplish a single task. The result was increased productivity. While the practice, called Taylorism, is questionable in terms of human rights in today’s world, you’ll study that management style and others.
