  1. It's a huge school. Someone once told me that you can always make a big school small but you can never make a small school big. The beauty of U of I is that you can select your participation in campus activities and choose your friend groups to give yourself a "small school feel" all the while reaping the benefits and resources of a large school.

  2. Academic Excellence. It's no secret that U of I is a top college across the board, with remarkable excellence in engineering and business. It's no wonder that Fortune 50 companies like Microsoft have deemed U of I their top choice in recruiting.

  3. Campus Life. Champaign is the ideal college town. Enough bars that you don't get bored. Enough food joints that you'll be trying something new well into your senior year. And the campus itself is so beautifully maintained, it's near impossible to not want to be on the quad 24/7.

THERE IS LOTS OF FREEDOM---this means freedom to choose which type of classes you want to take to fulfill your requirements, you can be pretty flexible with your schedules but still have counselors verifying that you have all the requirements you need to graduate, to continue your education, to get a career in your field, etc. There is also lots of freedom to choose what to do for fun, you can either join or stay away from greek life, you can join all kinds of students groups--some for fun and some for career aspirations or experience in your preferred field, and you can attend division one sports at our top tier facilities.

THERE IS LOTS OF DIVERSITY---You meet a whole lot of students and are exposed to all different kinds of activities from cultural meet and greets or food nights to sorority/fraternity sponsored sports competitions. Some of your best friends will have come from a background much different than yours and you will enjoy sharing your perspectives of the world with each other and help each other discover more about yourselves.

THE FACULTY ARE EXTREMELY TALENTED----Many of the professors you will have are very accomplished and knowledgeable people who are willing to help get you going on the career field of your choice and who make learning material more fun and enjoyable. Their focus on active learning and participation really mold you into a well-rounded, talented intellectual who is ready for a career in the field that they love. Faculty, many times, also conduct their own research in the field, have published papers, or have even traveled abroad and are willing to share what they learned from these endeavors with their students. So not only are they great tutors and intelligent thinkers who pass on this quality to their students, but are also great people to connect with and lean on to help you find the right experiences for your career field.

I personally love UIUC because of its diversity. I come from a small town where there is not much diversity so I was really looking forward in meeting people from different backgrounds, different ethnicity, and different cultures. The second reason to attend UIUC is because it is a big school. Now, that might not sound like a good thing for some people (that's what I thought too at first as I wanted to go to a smaller school), but a large school means many opportunities and resources. The school offers a lot of resources, help, and leadership opportunities for students. There are over 1000 student organizations so everyone will find something they are passionate about. The third reason to attend UIUC is that UIUC is just a beautiful campus with a lot of activities to do. There is always something to do and if you are bored while you are at UIUC, then you are not doing college right.
