Many Rochester students go exploring in the city to try local eateries or visit the many museums/galleries, attend movie nights and game nights in Hoyt Auditorium, or go out to fraternity parties on the weekends for fun, among other things.

As an accredited nerd school many students join the Quidditch team or join the crowd and watch. It is said that one thing every student must do in their 4 years of school is eat a 'garbage' plate which essentially is a heart attack on a plate. Another past time is to go see students of the Eastman School of Music preform in the downtown theater. We like to balance sports, a healthy diet, and fine arts. In addition to these fun and relaxing past time, the University of Rochester is dedicated to its community. We participate in many service projects throughout the year.

University of Rochester students love to spend all of their meal plan dollars on food at Chipotle. Chipotle to U of R students is like carbon dioxide to dandelions; hit up our local chain, and it will be full of students enjoying their delicacies. On weekends, UofR Cinema club shows movies which have not made it to dvd at Hoyt Auditorim, and students love to buy tickets to watch the popularly claimed movies. Paramount, U of R students spend the majority of their time coolin' on the quad in the fall/spring and in Gleason Library in the winter, studying for finals. Go you Yellowjackets. Meliora.

We go and visit the Strong National Museum of Play, which is a beautiful place to visit and walk around. There are always student and professional performances at the Eastman School of Music, which are always enjoyable to attend. There are also a lot of minor league teams in the Rochester area, so going to those games are always special and fun to do.

Rochester students have a lot on their plate, but I'd imagine it's fun for incoming international or out of state students to explore the city and eat at one of the multitude of eclectic restaurants nearby or grocery shop at the public market. Rochester has much to offer in the way of quality, third-wave coffee shops to enjoy with friends or on your own. Also, there are several venues and galleries to check out a music or art show, and festivals throughout the summer.

Play basketball in the gym (or just work out at the gym in general), sledding down the hills (in the winter when there is snow), parties at the Frat Quad

Hang out at Miner Library! If you are going to the U of R you are invested in your education. What better place to study then a quiet room with a grand fireplace and enormous stuffed snuggly bear to visit when you need a break. Bike or run the river trail. It runs along the Genesee River just outside of campus. It can shoot you downtown, to Dinosaur BBQ, or even to the Erie Canal. Await the Lilac Festival. The winters are brutal but it's all worth it when one of the many city festivals, like the Lilac Festival rolls around in the summertime. It means free music and fun for days on end!

I can't speak for the whole student population, but as for me, my top 3 things to do for fun all involve my friends. I think that anything is fun with the right people around you, whether it's that I play Varsity Women's Lacrosse with 28 of my closest friends, participate in philanthropy events with my sorority - Kappa Delta, or just hanging in the kitchen and talking while we cook.

I attend the Eastman school of Music and most people work very hard. Time spent outside the practice room not studying is usually spent watching concerts and recitals given by friends. The most common pass times are just spending time with friends. Most students visit the Eastman House Museum and the Memorial Art Gallery at some point. The winter is pretty brutal but people go ice skating often as well. The Fringe Festival comes through once a year, which is like a carnival.

Students can visit historic sites around the area. There are a number of music and other festivals that occur in the summer and fall. Several of the local farms host fall apple picking, corn mazes, hay rides, etc. Garbage plates and Wegmans are also part of the Rochester experience. Being close to Eastman and the Rochester Phil creates lots of opportunities to hear a good range of concerts at low prices for U of R students. There is also a pretty good local music scene.
