Because Fort Dorchester High School is so diverse, there really is no typical student. To try to boil all students down to one person is diminishing the importance of individuality and diversity that our school celebrates. Each student at Fort Dorchester is unique and celebrated for it.

Fort Dorchester is very diverse in its students' characteristics. I would say a typical Patriot (the school mascot) shows a lot of school spirit, takes part in some of the numerous academic opportunities, including our International Baccalaureate program and the Early College Program, and finds time to socialize with friends and make connections with our excellent teachers. If one is going to attend Fort, they should be open and willing to try our numerous programs and work hard to be "college and career ready" upon graduation.

Fort Dorchester High School is filled with students from all sorts of backgrounds. The immediate area surrounding Fort Dorchester High School is also very different with mobile home parks and low-income apartment housing to a custom built gated golf course community within walking distance where home values range from $300,000 to over a million dollars. Just further out are neighborhoods that range from lower middle to upper middle income ranges. Thus, the students who come together under one roof at Fort Dorchester High School have varying backgrounds and family makeups. It is hard to say exactly what the "typical" Fort Dorchester High School student is like but, these different backgrounds certainly make the school a very diverse place in which to earn a high school diploma. This can be a very good thing for ALL students who attend FDHS. After all, this is a depiction of what the real world and our society as a whole is like. A student who is looking for a diverse cultural experience while in high school should attend FDHS. There are opportunities for all students regardless of their background or interests. There is everything from trade and vocational programs to the International Baccalaureate Program to the new "Early College" Program which allows students to receive their Associates Degree from Trident Technical College while in high school earning their high school diploma.
