The type of students that should attend the main campus of Penn State are students who are not afraid to go out of their comfort zone to have new experiences. Although I have only been attending Penn State for a semester and a half, I have been challenged and pushed out of my comfort zone more than I ever thought I would be. Due to attending a very large university, having classes with more than 700 people and knowing that over 40,000 students attend the university can be nerve-racking, but just by talking to people I once considered strangers, I have made some lifelong friends. In addition, Penn State offers many opportunities, but it takes courage to take advantage of them. One experience that I was able to take apart in during my first year at Penn State was participating in Penn State's Dance Marathon, called THON. THON is a yearlong effort to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer that ends with a 46 hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon, but THON is also much more than that. For the children impacted by pediatric cancer, THON is full of friendship and hope for the future. It would have been easy for me to sit out and not put effort into getting involved in THON, but instead I went out and helped raised money and joined a committee that helps the 708 dancers through the 46 hours that they must stand. I now consider THON to be one of the best experiences that I have ever had, and that is all thanks to Penn State. Reaching out and taking advantage of the opportunities that are out there is what Penn State students do best.

Penn State is full of ambitious and intelligent students; however, I believe that intelligence and drive is not the only thing that a student should possess. Students that attend Penn State should also be humanely-drive and compassionate towards others. Even though there is especially a lot of competition today in not only universities, but also high schools, it is especially important that one's ambition is not driven by the desire to earn and gain more for themselves but by the desire to encourage and help others in all that they do.

The type of student that should attend Penn State's Main Campus is a person that likes the big school feel. There are many opportunities to get involved in a million different ways at the campus to find little groups of people in which you fit in, however, it is still a big school and you should like the feel of being on a campus with thousands of other students. With this being said, students should also feel a sense of wanting to get involved with the school. If you do not wish to get involved with any clubs or activities, it will not help to make the school feel more like home and you can have a problem adjusting to your new surroundings.
