Student, Notre Dame High School, Class of 2016,
Students apply to Notre Dame for out amazing sports programs. For athletes, it's a special experience, considering the newly remodeled gym and the efforts to renew the baseball field. The addition of a new pool also entices swimmers to join in on the activities. For those of us who aren't very sporty, the debate team may be a perfect fit. With nationally known debaters, they are a passionate group of students who discuss policy options ranging from the issues of genetically modified organisms or the use of mass surveillance. Even if that doesn't sound appealing, the plethora of clubs and activities are bound to fit someone's interest. Namely, the Grillers Club. They cook delicious meals during lunch and all the proceeds go to charities of their choice. Perfect for someone who enjoys both cooking and community service. However, my lot would have to be with the debate team. Even though it may seem that I am partial to it simply because of my inclusion as a debater, the experience as a whole seems like something any high school student should experience. Not only do we get to travel to national tournaments, the people and networking we are able to do leaves us with other friends who may agree or disagree with out opinions all across the country. The activity itself is challenging and hard work, although there is the adrenaline rush during competition. The benefits include the feelings of success after beating an opponent after a smart argument was made, but feeling friendliness with said opponent even after the round. It's a comfortable atmosphere, one where everyone gets a chance to say something.
