Student, Morristown West High School, Class of 2015,
The three most popular extracurricular activities at my school include football, cross country, and band. While each of the programs offer students a wide array of options in how to express themselves and grow as individuals, none of them come close to offering students the benefits associated with our speech and debate program. Through speech and debate, we teach our students how to effectively communicate, a trait that is both crucial to real world success as well as insuffieciently taught in most public high schools today. We also teach kids how to analyze data and use the information they gather to effectively weigh arguments regarding real world topics ranging from foreign and domestic policy to ethical and philosphoical debates.
