The typical person to attend UCSB is very laid back and fun but also knows how to get down to business when the time demands it. The college atmosphere in Santa Barbara can be very distracting becaus we live on the beach or close to it and because Isla Vista (where most students live) has a very active social life so it wouldn't be for someone that can be easily deterred from their school work. It is perfect though for someone that is looking for a perfect blend of everything you would want in a picture-perfect college life.

The typical UCSB student is someone who loves the outdoors and takes advantage of the beautiful weather and outdoor activities that are available in Santa Barbara. UCSB students also tend to care about the environment and keeping the world a clean and beautiful place for future generations. They are laid back and generally unimpressed with superficial material things, choosing instead to focus on valuable and genuine friendships.

There is no "typical" UCSB student. This is why UCSB is so great because you can be whoever you want to be and you will fit in just perfectly. The type of person that should attend UCSB is anyone who shares a kind and respectful mindset and is accepting of others.

Students at UCSB are really friendly and laid-back, the upperclassmen are welcoming to younger students and aren't intimidating like I imagined. People are very studious and go to the library together, a lot of people are Bio and science majors. People like to be social and go to parties, any day of the week you can find things to do and people are pretty welcoming. I would say most students are concerned about their health and go to the gym often, a lot of people run and play beach volleyball or go hiking.

I don't think this question can be answered appropriately. There are various amounts of personalities, cultures and backgrounds to take into consideration.

UCSB carries a reputation as a "party school" that is heavily misinterpreted and skewed by the few outliers. The fact of the matter is that the college is still a UC; meaning a strong academic background and work ethic are required for an individual to even be considered for admission. Also, UCSB is one of the few universities which heavily funds undergraduate research. Students entering their first years of college are able to quickly advance their professional resumes in their quest for higher learning. However, a good UCSB student is also socially well-rounded and knows how to enjoy himself.

The type of person that should be admitted into UCSB should be a hard-worker. Not only does it take dedication to fulfill the criteria of a hard-worker but also be ready and prepared for obstacles that one may face; whether it be a school obstacle or a financial obstacle. Being a resourceful student is always helpful, and since our school is placed in a ecologically friendly environment, one should always be mindful of their waste and dispose of it properly. Many students here at UCSB take their time to clean up their messes and make sure that broken bottles get cleaned up and put in the recycle bin, and trash that is left outside in their lawns gets thrown out. Although many students aren't here for the environment, I believe that each student has their own positive aspect to bring to this school. Aside from being a green environment, being resourceful not only goes a long way when it comes to thriving as a student here, it allows for opportunities for students alike to work together and help each other on projects that might someday help their own communities.

The typical UCSB student, also referred to as a Gaucho, embodies a friendly persona. Through his sense of humor, optimistic attitude, and willingness to lend a helping hand, a Gaucho brightens the day of the individual(s) he interacts with. Along with his personable character, a fellow Gaucho appreciates his environment. This burning passion sparks the inner advocate of many UCSB students. Fellow Gauchos hold community service projects to improve the local environment. Thus, improving the quality of life not only for members of the community, but for the creatures living within the surrounding landscape. As the pun-intended motto at UCSB states: "We Gaucho back!"
